چکیده

Background: Autonomic responses fol low exposure to conditioned stimuli such as contextual factors associated with alcohol ingestion. Heart rate variabili O, is under autonomic control and may be a measure o f such response. Methods: Twenty alcoholics and 23 matched social drinkers (all male) were exposed to a neutral cue and then an ah'ohol cue in identical settings, during which the electrocardiogram o f these subjects was recorded. Time and frequency domain parameters o f heart rate variability (HRV) were computed by a blind rater. Resul ts : Coefficient o f variation ~( R-R intervals and absolute powers" o f HRV spectrum (in frequency bands 0 .05-0.15 Hz and 0.01-0.05 Hz) Jbllowing alcohol cue were significantly higher in alcoholics than social drinkers'. The mean heart rate (MHR). f i l i led to reflect this d~[fl, rence. Conclusions: HRV paradigm appears more sensitive than MHR to measure cue reactivity. Pretreatment cue reactivity predicts end-of-treatment smoking.

Although a substantial body of literature has established a relationship between cue reactivity and theoretically relevant addiction variables, the association with treatment process variables remains largely unexplored. In the current investigation, 62 smokers participated in a smoking cue reactivity study, and subsequently enrolled in a smoking cessation program. Hierarchical regressions reve...

Alcohol attentional bias is associated with autonomic indices of stress-primed alcohol cue-reactivity in alcohol-dependent patients.

When alcohol-dependent individuals are exposed to drinking-related cues, they exhibit psychophysiological reactivity such as changes in heart rate variability (HRV) and skin temperature. Moreover, such alcohol cue-reactivity may co-occur with attentional bias (AB) toward alcohol cues. In turn, stress may promote appetitive responses by exacerbating these autonomic and attentional factors. Altho...

Comparison of the effect of aerobic exercise in water with two different temperatures with outside water environment on the index of very low frequency waves of heart rate variability in active young men

Introduction and purpose: Cardiac response to body core temperature variation measured with the very low-frequency parameter of heart rate variability. The aim of this study was to investigate the variability of very low frequency due to different temperatures of aerobic training in water and dry. Materials and methods: 40 academic active male were selected as research subjects. Then, all subje...

A subtle threat cue, heart rate variability, and cognitive performance.

This research was designed to extend the literature on heart rate variability (HRV) in cognitive performance contexts by examining whether a subtle threat cue (the color red) in a test environment influences HRV reactivity and whether HRV reactivity is associated with change in cognitive performance. Thirty-three participants took an IQ test, briefly viewed red or a chromatic or achromatic cont...

Relationship of Gender and Lipid Profile with Cardiac Parasympathetic Reactivity

Background: Lower heart rate variability has been proven to be associated with a greater risk for developing hypertension among normotensive men, and hypertension is one of the major risk factor of coronary heart disease. Hormonal factors in premenopausal women may cause variance in heart rate variability and impact lipid profile. Objectives: The study was designed to evaluate the relationship ...
